// getting your device to us

Post or courier your device — it's simple

Most customers get a quote first, by phone or with the free online diagnostic, and then post or courier their media to us.

Sending a drive from a computer, laptop, MacBook, iMac, CCTV / DVR or server? Please remove the internal hard drive or SSD and send us just the drive (from a server, every disk, each labelled with its bay), as we don't offer a drive-removal service. We don't recover storage soldered to a motherboard (for example T2 and Apple Silicon Macs and some thin laptops), only drives that can be removed and sent to us. If you're not sure which kind you have, ring us first.

  • Wrap the device in bubble wrap or a padded envelope. An external drive goes whole, in its enclosure with its cable and power supply; bare drives and cards don't need cables.
  • Print and enclose the booking-in & shipping form (PDF) with your name, phone number and a short description of what happened.
  • Get a quote first, by phone or with the free online diagnostic, then post it by Royal Mail Special Delivery or any tracked courier you book yourself, for full insurance in transit.
  • Would you rather hand it over in person? Once you have a quote, you can drop it in at the Oxford lab's reception at the address shown, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, no appointment needed.

Common questions

Oxford Data Recovery starts with a completely free diagnosis. In this first phase the diagnosis gives you a clear explanation of exactly what can be recovered, and one fixed price quote in writing, before any work is authorised. For logical recoveries (deleted files, formatted drives or corrupted data), in most cases you only pay if we recover your data. Devices that are damaged electronically, mechanically, physically or by water or fire need invasive work, however, so 50% of the quote is paid upfront for replacement parts and lab time before any recovery attempt. The balance is only due if we recover your data.
Because the business runs on a post-in basis only, there is no high street presence in Swindon, which keeps the overheads out of your quote. Get a quote first, by phone or with the free online diagnostic. Once you have received your quote, please send your device to us tracked and insured, or visit the reception at our Oxford lab yourself, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, no appointment needed.
Wherever you are in Swindon, Chippenham, Marlborough, Cirencester, Devizes or anywhere else in Wiltshire, don't waste your time searching for a local data recovery counter. Get a quote first, by phone or with the free online diagnostic. With tracked post your device is delivered to our lab in Oxford the next day, and we complete the free diagnostic within 2 working days. Compared with going around town looking for data recovery near you, and possibly causing more damage to a failing drive, for most faults this gets the same result much faster.
Get a quote first, by phone or with the free online diagnostic. Then wrap your device in bubble wrap, put a note inside the parcel with your name and phone number, and post it by Royal Mail Special Delivery or an insured courier to our lab: Oxford Data Recovery, John Eccles House, Oxford Science Park, Robert Robinson Avenue, Littlemore, Oxford, OX4 4GP (for the attention of Oxford Data Recovery). We will ring you as soon as it has been received.
The free diagnostic takes 2 working days after arrival. If you want to proceed, most jobs are completed within a week of approval. Jobs involving multiple drives in a RAID or physical damage to the media take longer, and business-down cases can be given priority.
Yes, in a lot of cases we can, as second opinions are the norm for us. Let us know exactly what your first attempt involved and we will put together a recovery plan that protects whatever was left behind, and the diagnosis is still free.
Your data is kept entirely safe with us. Each device is checked into our secure lab and handled under GDPR by our own engineers only. All the files from the recovery are returned to you on an encrypted drive, and once you confirm you have received them safely, all copies in the lab are securely erased.
